Not (un-)Dead Yet: the Twilight New Voices Project

I started following actress Tinsel Korey, famous for playing Emily in the Twilight Saga movies, on Instagram a few months ago. I suppose when you are caught up in a social phenomenon as big as Twilight, it tends to follow you. But, it can offer opportunities, too.

Stephenie Meyer, author of Twilight and its sequels, has announced a contest, The Storytellers: New Voices of Twilight Saga project, to help promote the voices of women in the film industry. She is partnering with Volvo and Tongal to provide cash prizes and commercial distribution for the winning short film written and directed by women.

Entertainment Weekly revealed the six winning screenplays earlier this month.

Korey announced yesterday on her Instagram feed that she has submitted her application to direct one of them and is waiting anxiously to hear if she’s been accepted.

So, why am I telling you all this?

Because it gives me hope that there might be life left yet in my book Glitter in the Sun. As long as there is interest in Twilight, there’s a chance someone will ask why that is. And I will be here with my little book to answer the question, “because it’s about eternal love and our inborn desire to have it for ourselves.”

Did you love Twilight? Would you be interested in seeing a short film about Saga characters that aren’t named Bella, Edward, Jacob or Renesme? Who?
