In the old ways the diets were extremely healthy. There was no sickness or disease on our Turtle Island (North American Continent) prior to the arrival of the European. Lean meat, dried fruits and vegetables made up our diets. We did not have sugar nor did we use salt. There was no such thing as “processed” foods or “fast food take-outs.”

As you research this subject you will find old recipes and new ones. One of the biggest attractions at pow-wows today is fry bread. Fry bread was not an original food, but is a reservation food that helped fill the bellies of the hungry.
