Who is Benjamin Pratt?
For more than 30 years, Pratt practiced pastoral counselor in the Washington D.C. area. He earned his doctorate degree in counseling people struggling with burnout. For years, he also was a full-time caregiver for his wife, so he knows this daily challenge first hand. In researching this book, he worked with caregivers, care receivers and nonprofit support groups.

Don’t have time to read a book?
Don’t worry! This book is drawn from the wisdom of caregivers just like you—and we know you don’t have time read ponderous chapters. This book is packed with short, easy-to-read sections.

What’s in this book?
The many sections include these topics: Talking Honestly, Listening Intently, Appreciating Time, Savoring Solitude, Balancing Our Labor, Singing, Grieving, Laughing, Forming a Group and Understanding Burnout. That’s just a sampling of the many topics.

Why should my congregation or small group care about this book?
Reaching out to caregivers is one of the greatest ministry challenges of this new decade!
Sixty-five million Americans are caregivers for their loved ones.
One in three American households includes a caregiver.
These men and women often are cut off from their congregations. They have trouble attending. Congregations rarely understand and adapt to welcoming them.
If your congregation or small group simply opens itself to a discussion of this book—you will find new men and women walking through your doors.

What if I’m not Christian?
The Rev. Dr. Benjamin Pratt is an ordained United Methodist pastor and the vast majority of Americans tell pollsters they are “Christian,” but this spiritual need among millions is broader than any one faith. Like a chaplain in public service, Pratt writes: “This book is intended for persons of all faiths. I am here human-to-human, without bias for religious preference. My hope is that your religious or spiritual tradition will be relevant and helpful in your personal journey as a caregiver.”
