Congratulations to Wilbur Award winners …

We are pleased at ReadTheSpirit to congratulate Christian ethicist, Mercer University scholar and author David Gushee for winning a Wilbur Award this spring! Dr. Gushee won the prize from the Religion Communicators Council for the series of blogs on the Religion News Service that formed the basis for his popular book: Changing Our MindHis honor was announced on March 4 and will be presented on April 2 in ceremonies in New York City.

Since it was published, Changing Our Mind has been credited with countless positive conversations in families and congregations nationwide. In the book, Dr. Gushee explains how he came from a faith-based opposition to inclusion of gay and lesbian Christians—to changing his mind, admitting his earlier arguments were wrong and calling on other Christians to join him in welcoming LGBT membership in their congregations.

We also congratulate Diana Butler Bass, who also won a Wilbur Award for her new book, Grounded. We featured an in-depth interview with her in an earlier cover story this year.

And we extend congratulations to all of this year’s winners.
